SIR WALTER SCOTT, on a sea journey from Arbroath to Aberdeen on which he was seasick, wrote in his diary – “…vessel off Fowlsheugh and Dunnottar. Fair wind and delightful day.” Which was just how I found it – not the seasickness bit, the weather.
A CHANGE of scene is as good for the dogs as it is for the Doyenne and me. Here at home we’re spoilt for choice for walks but new scenery and a different routine is a change that’s as good as a holiday.
WE’RE DELIGHTED that one of the two bird boxes we put up at the start of the year has a great tit nesting in it. I saw them investigating the box and carrying in nesting material around the end of April and I know the hen bird is sitting on eggs.
MAY IS probably the loveliest month in my calendar of seasons. Hedgerow and woodland colours are asserting themselves and there’s an explosion of new life on the trees.
IT’S AN urban myth that the countryside is a haven of peace and quiet.
